Zoom Controls and Azimuth Reference
Zoom Controls enables you navigate from global views to street-level detail. You can zoom-in or zoom-out while the platform automatically adjusts image resolution and feature visibility. Your spatial context stays intact as you explore the map.
Azimuth Reference enables you to set your directional compass and measurements within the platform. It helps you to establish where North points and how angles are measured. This tool is important calculating accurate bearing calculations, shadow analysis, viewshed computations, and route planning. Without it, your directional measurements would be meaningless.
Think of these tools as your spatial navigation essentials: Zoom gets you to the right scale, Azimuth keeps your analysis directionally accurate.
In this section, you can do the following:
-
Basemap reference and date

-
Search coordinates
Basemap Reference
This refers to the basemap that is selected. The date is available only at a specific zoom-in level and refers to the day when the tile was available in the platform.
The basemap reference and the date is not available for Open Street Maps.
Zoom Controls
Enables you to zoom in or zoom out of the map.
Click the + sign to zoom and click the – sign to zoom out.
Alternatively, you can also use the keyboard and mouse to zoom in and zoom out:
-
Hold Ctrl and scroll up on the mouse wheel to zoom in.
-
Hold Ctrl and scroll on the mouse wheel down to zoom out.
Azimuth Reference
An azimuth in geospatial analysis is a directional measurement that shows the horizontal angle from true north clockwise to a target direction.
You can use the azimuth for planning routes, calculating sight lines, and aligning infrastructure. In addition, you can also use it for planning surveillance and analyzing terrain.
To get the best results, you must do the following:
-
Set clear reference systems (true north, magnetic north, or grid north)
-
Use visualization tools to display results effectively
Toggle Coordinates Type
Toggle between the Degrees Mins & Seconds (DMS) and the Military Grid Reference System (MGRS).
- Click the < and > buttons to quickly switch between DMS and MGRS
Search Coordinates
Displays the corresponding map coordinates of your current view.
As you explore a new location on the map, the coordinates will be dynamically displayed on the screen.
- Click the coordinates section and copy-paste the numbers or search the coordinates.
